MATERIALISTES: An Exploration of the Métiers d’Art

Exhibition by Morgane Baroghel-Crucq and & GALLIFET ART CENTER

Pictures by Aude Volokhoff de Roucy

Materialistes offers a profound and poetic exploration of materials, celebrating the artistry and ingenuity of contemporary artist-artisans. Following two previous exhibitions dedicated to the meticulous craftsmanship of these visionaries, this exhibition serves as Chapter 3—a continuation into the heart of contemporary craftsmanship.
In this new chapter, humans and the environment are deeply interconnected through materiality. We are invited to explore a world where artisans become an extension of their surroundings, shaping raw elements into one-of-a-kind expressions of art and design. Here, material is not merely transformed—it breathes, evolves, and tells a story. The boundaries between landscapes, textures, and the human form dissolve, revealing a new way to experience the world through tactile and visual interest.

This curated exhibition features an exquisite selection of statement objects, totems, paper sculptures, bookbinding, natural dyes, and stone furniture. Each piece embodies a harmonious blend of heritage techniques and contemporary innovation, illustrating how material itself becomes a source of inspiration.
